Artist Talk & Demo: Pâte de Verre
Free Special Event
Sunday, December 16, 2007 • 2-4pm
RSVP December 4-14 (Required)
The French term pâte de verre translates literally as paste of glass. This method, which is practiced in many forms, involves creating thin-walled vessels by hand-packing multiple layers of fine glass grains into the interior of a mold.
Pâte de verre artists must have skill, patience and special tools, which they often design for themselves. And because a few degrees of excessive heatwork can dissolve their wafer-thin creations, they must also cultivate highly refined firing skills.
One need only glance at Alicia Lomné's delicate work to see how accomplished she is in this method. Having studied kilncasting and pâte de verre with masters for many years, she has developed her own unique practices and a clear artistic vision. Her unusually large, carefully colored forms are now shown at galleries around the country, including Bullseye Gallery.
Please join Lomné for this Bullseye special event and learn about her processes—including model making, mold construction, color mixing, inlay design, texture control, firing cycles, and coldworking. She’ll also discuss her motivations for working in pâte de verre and share images of her work.
We ask that you contact us by December 14 to reserve a seat for this complimentary event: 503-227-2797 or resourcecenter@bullseyeglass.com
