BECON SPECIAL EVENTS IN 2003

PRE-CONFERENCE OPENING RECEPTION FOR LEGACY

WHEN: Thursday, July 31, 7 - 9 PM
WHERE: The Bullseye Gallery
             300 NW 13th Avenue

BECon 2003 kicked off with a pre-conference reception to toast the teaching artists, their students, friends and fans and to preview works in kilnformed glass from some of the world's best glassworkers and those they have inspired, prodded, nourished or intimidated. Legacy was a visual examination of how glass knowledge passes hands; how we learn and how we transfer the skills, ideas and passions of kiln glass.

No-host bar, light hors d'oeuvres. Transportation shuttle ran continuously from 6:30 - 10:00 PM between the gallery and Embassy Suites hotel.

Included in conference fee.
Non-conference attendees: $15.

RENDEZVOUS AT THE RESOURCE CENTER

WHEN: Friday, August 1, 7 - 9:30 PM
WHERE: The Bullseye Connection Resource Center
             1308 NW Everett Street

The Bullseye Connection Resource Center burned the not-quite-midnight oil to accommodate out-of-town visitors and locals alike for product and process demonstrations. Nearby eateries and pubs in the surrounding Pearl District provided a slice of PortlandŐs best foodie neighborhood for the post-RC evening.

Free to the public.

WORLD-FAMOUS BULLSEYE LEHR-B-Q FACTORY EXTRAVAGANZA

WHEN: Saturday, August 2, 7:30 - 10:30 PM
WHERE: The Bullseye Glass Co. Factory
             3722 SE 21st Avenue

What do you do with a 100 ft long continuous belt annealer when you're not making sheet glass? If you are Bullseye Glass, you use it to barbecue chicken and ribs! Yes, folks, from the people who brought you glassmaking at the cutting edge of 17th century technology: chickens and ribs in the greatest example of culinary overkill you may ever have experienced.

More sedately prepared - but equally tasty - fare accompanied the Lehr-B-Q'd main course, as did libations from our local brew pubs and wineries.

For the less gastronomically-focused, there were also glassworking demonstrations, tours of the new resource center (construction site!) and opportunities to hobnob with other kiln glass fanatics from around the world.

This is a rare event at Bullseye. It's a Nowhere-Else-in-the-World kinda experience.

Included in conference fee.
Non-conference attendees: $45
